Building Maintenance Superintendent

 Building Maintenance Superintendent Responsibilities: Ensures the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of the Mercer Community Center/ Mercer Town Office/Gym and common areas. Key duties include performing minor (non-licensed required) repairs, routine maintenance, janitorial work, and managing building event rentals.

  • Handle necessary minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain clean bathrooms, floors (including the gymnasium), and basic office cleaning, Trash removal.
  • Considers and adheres to safety practices.
  • Keeps a maintenance log and emails the Administrator in advance of scheduled maintenance
  • Report any issues to the Administrator for notification to the board.
  • Responds to repair and maintenance requests in a timely fashion.
  • Reads and follows written and verbal instructions
  • Collaborate with the Select Board, Administrator and contractors as needed.
  • Communicate with the Administrator for prior authorization of any purchase.
  • Interact with the public in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Order and maintain cleaning supplies.
  • Assist with MCC rentals; set up, break down tables and chairs for the events. Ensure the facility is clean prior to and after an event. Manage lockboxes and keys to ensure the building's security. Be available to answer calls during rentals, if needed.
  • Clear walkways of snow and maintain sand or ice melt for safety.

 Work Hours/Wage: This is a newly created part-time position with a set salary and flexible hours, subject to meeting the outlined job responsibilities. Basic expectations are 5 hours at $ 25.00/hr. With an average of 5 hours per week, the employee will be responsible for monitoring their time efficiently.to stay within the budgeted allocation for this position.

 Maintenance Worker Qualifications and Skills: Working knowledge of how to safely use equipment, including power tools, hand tools, and electric tools. Capable of working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Able to climb ladders. Strong working knowledge of systems to easily recognize when there is a need for repair. Ability to lift 50lbs if needed.

 Education and Experience Requirements: At least 1 year of building maintenance or related work experience, including construction, plumbing, or electrical work, is strongly preferred but not required.
